In the City Ground directors’ box, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis jointly watched the Premier League with considerable interest and had a huge TV set in front of him.
Whether on the television or on the pitch, Marinakis was never failing to gaze with great earnestness: he watched with eagerness the glory of One of his wishes- seeing Forest taking on and defeating the reigning champions Liverpool.
There was an astonishing blend of emotions as Forest fans lived life at its fullest, there was also a ruthless display of defending from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as Liverpool’s Arne slot almost single handedly reversed the game around with two innovative substitutions.
Following the final 1-1 draw, there was only one match left for Liverpool, and they had a six-point advantage over Forest who settled for second place. The underdogs of the Premier League showed they had done enough to clinch their high half of the table finish.
After they lost to uncle Slot’s team, Forest visited Anfield in September, the only league loss that Slot’s team has suffered this season. For the last 66 minutes of the game, however, it seemed they were once again going to hand Liverpool their second defeat of the night.
Eight minutes into the match, Forest took the goal in typical Nuno style, running at lightning speed up the field following a cross pitch from Anthony Elanga that took a deflection off Virgil. Chris Wood, the striker for the 13 goals of the year, executed his 13th-season goal perfectly. He has an upper hand this year.
Matz Sels, a goalkeeper, was instrumental in this astounding effort by Forest in tandem with the twin powerhouses of Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic. They all showed great skill as Liverpool attempted a late surge.
If there is a more colossal pair of centre backs in the Premier League, then they have to be a terrifying sight.
While both Murillo and Milenkovic are good footballers, their strong willpower and “You shall not pass” attitude help Forest’s counterattack with Wood in the center and Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi at the wings to prosper.
